DMCA Copyright Policy

Last updated: May 23, 2026

Circl respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users of our Service to do the same. This DMCA Policy describes the procedure for submitting copyright infringement notifications and counter-notifications under the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) and equivalent international frameworks.

1. Reporting Copyright Infringement

If you are a copyright owner (or authorized to act on behalf of one) and you believe that material on Circl infringes your copyright, you may submit a written notification ("DMCA Notice") to our Designated Copyright Agent.

Your DMCA Notice must include all of the following:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf;
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple works are covered, a representative list of such works;
  3. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing, with sufficient information to permit us to locate it (URL, profile name, screenshot, post identifier, etc.);
  4. Your contact information: full name, mailing address, telephone number and email address;
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on behalf of the owner.

Incomplete notices may not be processed. Filing a knowingly false DMCA Notice may result in legal liability for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees, under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

2. Designated Copyright Agent

DMCA Notices must be sent to our Designated Copyright Agent at the address below:

Circl – DMCA Copyright Agent

4. Counter-Notification

If you are a Circl user whose content was removed or disabled in response to a DMCA Notice, and you believe that the removal was the result of mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification ("Counter-Notice").

Your Counter-Notice must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature;
  2. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location at which it appeared before removal (URL, post identifier, etc.);
  3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification;
  4. Your full name, mailing address, telephone number and email address;
  5. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if you reside outside the United States, the United States District Court for any district in which Circl may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original DMCA Notice or their authorized agent.

Counter-Notices must be sent to the Designated Copyright Agent listed in Section 2.

5. Action Upon Receipt of a Counter-Notice

Upon receipt of a valid Counter-Notice, Circl will forward it to the party who submitted the original DMCA Notice. If that party does not file a lawsuit seeking a court order against the user within ten (10) to fourteen (14) business days, Circl may, at its discretion, restore the removed material.

6. Repeat Infringer Policy

In accordance with the DMCA and applicable laws, Circl has adopted a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances and at our sole discretion, the accounts of users who are deemed to be repeat infringers.

Circl may also, at our sole discretion, limit access to the Service or terminate the accounts of any users who infringe any intellectual property rights of others, whether or not there is repeat infringement.

7. Misrepresentations

Under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing, or that material or activity was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, may be subject to liability for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees.

8. International Copyright Claims

Although Circl operates under French law, we honor copyright protection internationally. If you are located outside the United States and wish to report copyright infringement under your local copyright framework (such as the EU Copyright Directive, the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, etc.), you may use the procedure described above. Please clearly identify the applicable law in your notification.

9. Limitations

This DMCA Policy applies only to claims of copyright infringement. For other types of intellectual property claims (trademark, right of publicity, etc.) or other violations of our Community Guidelines, please contact contact@app-circl.com.
